Description

THE ULTIMATE OUTLAW -
Frank Sinatra more or less “did it his way.”
Waylon Jennings most definitely DID IT HIS WAY.
There were other famous outlaws.  Of the more famous along with  Waylon were
Willie Nelson,
, Kris Kristofferson, Johnny Cash, a
nd Merle Haggard.
Certainly Tompall Glaser, Charlie Daniels,  Leon Russell and Hank Williams, Jr. can be included in the group for sure.
But Waylon was the greatest OUTLAW of them all.
This album is a virtual “documentary” of
Waylon’s
outlaw country years for RCA and includes several of his most well-known signature songs, the most recent of which had been the title track of
I’ve Always Been Crazy,
released
the year before. Not counting the
Mackintosh & T.J
.
soundtrack album and the
White Mansions
concert album,
Greatest Hits
became Jennings' eighth consecutive release to reach #1 on the charts; it was also one of his last chart-topping records, with
What Goes Around Comes Around,
released that same year, peaking at #2.
"
Amanda"
had been a track on his 1974 album
The Ramblin Man
,
but had not been released as a single at that time. More than 4½ years later, new overdubs were added to the original track and the song was placed on this greatest hits album. In April 1979 it was issued as a single and soon became one of the biggest country hits of 1979.
Waylon and Johnny Cash shared an apartment near my father’s workshop where he made Music Row’s GOLD & PLATINUM record awards for 50 years.
They visited him often and he knew them both for many years.  Ken Kittinger was the premier awards maker for country, rock and pop record labels and was noted in Billboard Magazine at his passing for his award designs and industry reputation.  This award was just recently discovered in his estate.  Many of Ken's GOLD & PLATINUM awards are listed on eBay under the listings of Davestraub47.  He left over 5,000 items from his 50 years in the music industry.  Waylon's awards are extremely rare.
