Description
I never got to use this pattern. It includes patterns for a fashionable mid-nineteenth centurydress and for a Bloomer costume which is a shorter version of the dress with gathered
loose pants beneath it. Bloomers were considered VERY risque. They were named after
Amelia Bloomer who attended the first Women's Rights Convention at Seneca Falls, New
York in 1848. She did not vote for the Declaration of Sentiments, but she did believe in
dress reform. Susan B. Anthony and Lucy Stone were once surrounded by an offended
mob when they wore their Bloomer costumes. They had to be rescued. The fashion did
not last long. In a few years, when Anthony and Stone had to make new clothes, they
made conventional dresses.
Anyway, there is a good history of the Bloomer in the front of the instruction booklet
which has very detailed instructions including types of cloth and buttons to use for
the most authentic look. There are five big sheets of pattern pieces. This is a big
size, so could be cut down, and there are extensive instructions for getting the right
fit. This pattern cost .00 new. I offer it for a discount.
