Direct From Japan - No Reserve Price<br>TSUBA IRON JAPANESE KATANA GUARD EDO PERIOD MITO STYLE SANKYOO DESIGN<br>Description<br>This a very fine<br>TATTE MARU GATA<br>an oval<br>TSUBA<br>shape, made of iron, set up for the size of a<br>TANTO<br>, a<br>WAKIZASHI<br>or a<br>KATANA.<br>This design depictes a popular theme of the Three Patriarchs, These three figures are depicted around a jar of<br>SAKE<br>.<br>The design is placed in a lively fashion, the fine quality of the metal, elegance of the flat surface, skillful engraving, and a lobbed general form give the work a feeling of grandeur and authority.<br>Technique<br>The<br>MIGAKI JI<br>plate is lightly hammered and punched to create the appearance of a rock face, while the surface polished smooth, is sharply carved with accurate details in<br>TAKAZOGAN<br>a high relief modelling, with incrustation of gold,<br>SHIBUICHI<br>, and the iron of good colour.<br>The metal has a look of strength, a deep purplish patina and the entire guard has a rustic appearance. In all likelihood, it belongs to the middle<br>EDO<br>period.
